Technical Sessions starting from May 22nd, 2006 were a major part of the 16th IALA Conference, and consisted of ten individual sessions under different topics. Following were some details of the technical sessions. Session 1 was chaired by Mr. Terry Hughes from Trinity House of UK, with the topic of ¡°Training of Aids to Navigation and VTS Personnel¡±. Four speakers from China, USA, Germany presented their papers. Session 2 was chaired by Mr. Mike Sollosi from US Coast Guard, with the topic of ¡°The Integration of Aids to Navigation and VTS Systems with other Maritime Operational and Safety Services, including AIS¡±. Nine speakers from China, Italy, Germany, Argentina, the Netherlands, USA, Denmark, and France presented their papers. Session 3 was chaired by Mr. Gary Prosser from Australian Maritime Safety Agency, with the topic of ¡°Risk Management in Waterways and Quality Assurance in Aids to navigation Services¡±. Eight speakers from Australia, Turkey, France, China, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, and UK presented their papers. Session 4 was chaired by Mr. Omar-Frits Eriksson from Royal Danish Administration of Hydrography and Navigation of Denmark, with the topic of ¡°Future and Role of Conventional Aids to Navigation in a Digital World¡±. Seven speakers from UK, the Netherlands, Chile, Australia, and Germany presented their papers. Session 5 was chaired by Mr. Jin Shengli from China MSA, with the topic of ¡°Light and Vision¡±. Four speakers from the General Lighthouse Authorities, France, Japan and Germany presented their papers. Session 6 was chaired by Mr. Ma Jianshe from China MSA, with the topic of ¡°Development and Introduction of Digital Techniques in Aids to Navigation¡±. Twelve speakers from India, China, USA, Sweden, Scotland, Denmark, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, and IALA presented their papers. Session 7 was chaired by Mr. Nick Ward from Trinity House of UK, with the topic of ¡°Future Developments and New Technologies¡±. Seven speakers from Germany, Australia, China, Canada, Venezuela, the Netherlands, and France presented their papers. Session 8 was chaired by Mr. Wim van der Heijden from TNO of the Netherlands, with the topic of ¡°Presentations and Discussion Forum on AIS Networks¡±. Three speakers from Ireland, Spain and Japan presented their papers. Session 9 was chaired by Mr. Rolf Bacustrom from Finnish Maritime Adminstration of Finland, with the topic of ¡°Presentations and Discussion Forum on DGNSS¡±. Four speakers from France, Scotland, Germany and India presented their papers. Session 10 was chaired by Mr. Bob maclntosh from Northern Lighthouse Board of Scotland, with the topic of ¡°Presentation and Discussion Forum on Historic Lighthouses¡±. Three speakers from Spain, Ireland and France presented their papers. During the sessions, the speakers explained their point of view and answered questions from the attendees. The technical sessions provided a platform for both the presenters and audience to exchange views on various subjects of common interest. On May 27th, 2006, the technical sessions closed successfully.
