The 16th Conference of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities was held during May 22nd to 27th, 2006, at the International Conference Center in Shanghai, China.
    The topic of the Conference was “Aids to Navigation in the Digital World”. The Conference was attended by over 270 delegates from 43 countries.
    The Conference consisted of three parts, Opening Session, Technical Sessions and General Assembly. Capt. Liu Gongchen, Executive Director-General of China MSA chaired the Opening Session on May 22nd, and Mr. Xu Zuyuan, Vice Minister of Ministry of Communications, P.R.C. delivered a welcome speech. Mr. Clive Davidson, IALA Council President, and Mr. Efthimios Miitropopulos, Secretary General of IMO also addressed the meeting in the Opening Session.
    At the six-day Technical Sessions, representatives from different countries gave their presentations on various technical topics.
    On May 27th, the Conference elected the new Council, and closed successfully.
