It was destroyed by war and light was set on the steel structure temporarily. It was rebuilt into a round brick tower in 1958. The lighthouse was reconstructed at the present site in 1994. The lighthouse is located on the top of Daji mountain, southeastward outside the mouth of the Yangtze River, where the Yangtze River merges with the Hangzhou bay. Both vessels coming up by way of Huaniaoshan from the east will take their ways at the lighthouse to Shanghai port or other ports along the Yangtze River. Combined with a RBN-DGPS base station, a VTS radar station and an AIS base station, Dajishan Lighthouse is a multifunctional aid to navigation.
