Tangnaoshan Lighthouse is located on Tangnao Island, 6nm off the west of Dayang township of Shengsi county, Zhoushan city. The lighthouse, one of the main aids to navigation in the Shanghai-Ningbo route, was established in 1907, 17nm off Dajishan in the north and 16nm off Yuxingnao Lighthouse in the south.
The lighthouse was rebuilt at its original site and demanned in 1996. It is a round steel lantern, 3meters in diameter. The power is provided by solar energy with a diesel generator for spare use. A Racon was installed on the lighthouse.
Tangnaoshan Island is long and narrow from northwest to southeast, covering an area of 0.032 square kilometers. According to the history record, it was used to have a lantern but no tower. The light apparatus was originally set on the top of the one-storey house. In 1990, a two-storey house in half circular from was built and light apparatus was still put on the roof of the new house. The history of having a lantern but no tower was not changed until the reconstruction of the lighthouse in 1996.
