China Lighthouse Museum Awarded “National Base for Popularization of Science”

  Recently, a selection of “National Base for Popularization of Science” organized by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was completed, and China Lighthouse Museum (CLM) awarded the honor.
  
  
  
  Assessed and designated by CAST, National Base for Popularization of Science acts as a platform in interpreting science and technology for the public, and also an entity to organize activities for popularization of science and technology. The Base could be an arena, a facility or a site open to the public, with the function of presenting, disseminating and popularizing science and technology, and should be an affiliate of an organization engaged in teaching, scientific research, production or service.
  
  
  
  Since CAST issued the formal notification for application of National Base for Popularization of Science in 2009, the Museum staff made full preparation for the application by collecting documents, pictures and videos relevant to the popularization of science. After expert assessment and public comment, China Lighthouse Museum was finally awarded the honor of “National Base for Popularization of Science”.
  
  
  
  Focusing on the public needs, China Lighthouse Museum organized numerous activities, like “China Navigation Day”, “National Science Day”, “International Museum Day”, etc., to demonstrate modern aids to navigation technologies by way of AIS terminal demonstration, ship simulator and brochure. Meanwhile, cooperation with mass media, including TV stations, newspapers and the Internet was also enhanced to promote the popularization of lighthouse culture.
  
  
  
  The award of “National Base for Popularization of Science” also marks the recognition of CAST for the effort of CLM to popularize science and technology, and is of great importance for the development of CLM in the future.
